Carhenge is a replica of Stonehenge located in Alliance, Nebraska. It was built by Jim Reinders in 1987 during a family reunion, and has become a huge tourist attraction for the state of Nebraska. It is estimated that it draws between 30,000 and 80,000 visitors per year.

This 30 minute documentary explores how and why this monument was built and the opposition it faced from the the town of Alliance. The piece has been illustrated as a clear example of "Americana."

 

There is a variety of colorful characters, great music, and interesting debate about the nature of public art and community involvement.
