David Liban has worked in the television and film business since 1987.  He has produced and directed numerous independent productions that vary in style from fiction to documentary to television studio production, yet of late he has dedicated himself to the documentary form. Liban is an Associate Professor of Film & Video Production at the University of Colorado Denver, College of Arts & Media since 2004.


 

Liban’s films and videos have received numerous awards from both national and international film festivals. His Emmy award winning film called Mortal Lessons is airing on The Documentary Channel.

His current project is a feature length documentary about Shotokan Karate (in progress).

His previous film, Carhenge: Genius or Junk? was aired nationally on PBS and was nominated for an Emmy Award. Another film, "Smithee's Lecture" screened at the NY Metropolitan Museum of Art.

In 2002 Liban received a Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Award to Porto, Portugal where he taught television production.
